“Owl Moon” by Jane Yolen is a Caldecott Medal award winning book. It is a sweet, interesting story about a father and child’s special time together, participating in a family tradition called ‘owling’. The father and child go out together, late on a winter’s night when the moon is full. The child knows to be very quiet, to be ok in the cold, and to be brave. The father calls for an owl and they patiently wait, hoping for an owl to call back. Finally, they hear an owl and see it fly from a tree. The father turns on his flashlight so they can see it clearly. They are so happy to see it, and to share this experience together.
