In our school, “nature study” includes anything we do outside, since we are always making observations about the weather, sky, land, water, plants, and animals, as well as anything we read and draw that is related to nature. However, more specifically it is the field trips we take to make observations about a certain topic.
Here is an example of a nature study activity outline:
Meet at a nature park.
Discuss the topic and review examples and photos.
Make a list of things to search for and observe.
Explore the nature park.
Spend some time drawing and/or taking photos.
Keep a tally of observed things.
Meet and discuss observations.
