Calendula germinates easily and grows quickly to a height of 30-60 cm and a width of 15-30 cm. The leaves are medium green in color, and slightly rough. The flowers are abundant all summer and fall, and range in color from light yellow to vibrant gold and orange. Pinch them off to encourage longer flowering. They are beautiful in cut flower arrangements, and edible with a mild peppery taste.
Start seeds indoors or outdoors in March; transplant or seed outdoors in April, May, June, and July. Lightly cover seed with soil; keep moist. Space 15-30 cm apart. Moderate water. Full sun to partial shade.
Annual. Attracts butterflies and bees.
Seed life: 3 years.
